Teachers play many roles in the classroom, including instructor, facilitator, mentor, psychologist, counselor, and policeman. Business English can be taught one-on-one or in groups, and are, by definition, taught to adults. Some advantages of this are increased maturity, motivation, greater potential for a close bond, and greater attention span. Some disadvantages are increased self-consciousness, possible conflicts with work schedule, and the fact that they may not be used to the learning environment. There are also advantages and disadvantages to 1:1 versus group teaching, including differences in material selection, resources, feedback, pace, etc. The two productive (speaking and writing) and two receptive (listening and reading) skills can be taught and explored through use of both materials produced for teaching and materials authentic to the company.
