This is a very massive unit that introduces lots of new material to the student of basic teaching theory. Here, we see more technical terminology, for instance, from Speech Act Theory. The latter recognizes four different kinds of utterances in language which give meaning in situational and cultural contexts. For me, this was one of the most important parts of this lesson, since it delves directly into the problem of transposing language from one culture to the other, which is a constant problem for teachers trying to teach not only English but the acceptable cultural norms related to certain phrases and even tones of voice.
