This unit covers the different methods of evaluating students through tutorials, by the students, and tests. Evaluating by students through surveys allows teachers to receive the students opinions on what content they would like or need more of. Tests come in several different forms: placement, diagnostic, progress, practice, and external. Diagnostic tests are helpful for teachers to see what topics the students already know at the start of a course. Progress tests are what most people think of when it comes to testing. These are given throughout the course to see what knowledge has been absorbed and what needs work. The sample tests in the unit were very helpful to gauge how to ask questions or format tests. Prior to this unit, I did not know about general external exams, most of which are designed for those learning English as a second language who plan to work or study in a country in which English is the primary language.
