Pembine, Wisconsin TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This first unit provides an overview of teachers and learners. Ultimately, a good teacher cares about the learning of the student. The roles of the teacher varies depending on the lesson, context, and goals of the class. This unit stressed being an organizer as one of the most important roles, which I agree. Being prepared in the classroom allows for ample learning and practice time. Organization includes organizing students, giving instructions, and having lessons and materials prepared. Additionally, being able to manage the class, prompt students to practice, and serve as a resource are all very important, as are all the other roles in this unit. In terms of good learners, being motivated, interested, willing to practice and learn from mistakes are all essential qualities. Teachers must keep in mind the demographics of the class, particularly age, level of language proficiency, and motivations. For instance, adults are often more motivated yet more nervous and fixed in their ways. Younger students can be less motivated but less likely to care about making mistakes. My biggest takeaways are to assess the students and adapt the teaching roles based on the students, lesson, and context.
