This Unit focus on bring more detail and meaning to sentences. Adding words such as 'may', 'should', 'might', or 'must' can change the meaning of a sentence. Drawing focus to details of an idea. You ca use 'may' when asking permission to be polite. Or you can use 'might' in a sentence to provide an idea that you are less certain. These details can help you put more details in your sentences and allow a more clear transfer of intention.
There are also active and passive sentences that may mean the same thing, but present a different focus. Such as the sentence used in the unit 'My wife chose the wallpaper' against the sentence 'the wallpaper was chosen by my wife'. Both of these sentences mean the same thing; however, the emphasis changes. The first sentences puts more emphasis on who is responsible, while the second sentence shows that who did it is less important.
This unit is about these small changes to sentences to shift focus or intention and it is very important to select these words carefully or the meaning of what you are saying can shift unintentionally.
