Similar to Unit 4 with present tense, this unit explained past tenses – past simple, past perfect, past continuous and past perfect continuous. The structure of these tenses is very similar to the structure of present tense sentences. However, the usage for each type of past tense is slightly trickier than with the present tense. In particular, the usage of past perfect in comparison to past simple is nuanced. Generally speaking, past simple describes an action that is already completed, while past perfect describes an action that is completed before the start of another action.
