This unit has focused on teaching the pronunciation of English along with phonology and phonetic script. Phonology is the study of speech sounds that make up a language, making phonetic script the system of writing that connects written words with how they are spoken. Three major areas to this are stress, rhythm, and intonation. Certain syllables and words get stressed which can completely change the meaning of a sentence. Along with stress, all sentences have a natural rhythm which makes them flow smoothly. And intonation is the changes in volume and pitch throughout a sentence. All of these can be influenced by pronunciation, which students can learn through a few different ways. As usual, board work and drills can help teach a class, but so can humming/singing, indicating with your hands or mouth, using pictures and diagrams of how the mouth pronounces words, tongue twisters, and peer work.
