Since commencing this course, I have had my horizons broadened tenfold. Being a student who excelled strongly in all previous english courses, I was not expecting to learn as much as I did within the course about teaching basic english.
Over the span of the last few months, a few friends and relatives have commented on how aware and irritable I have become over oral or written grammatical mistakes when communicating in english to native english speakers (I am also a native french speaker) and from this I have concluded that I have mostly gained a heightened sense of awareness and alertness with regards to accurately communicating in the english language. I feel like this will be extremely useful to me when I begin to teach and will ultimately help assure that I am not misguiding my students.
Another skill I have gained from this course is being able to organize and compile my thoughts and ideas within a lesson plan. I have several years experience in dealing with and organizing groups of children (in particular), but never in a structured or scheduled way. The technique given by this course for building lesson plans is a brilliant method of organization and I plan to carry it with me throughout my teaching experiences, making mild adjustments where needed.
Lastly I feel like this course has provided me with enough examples and resources that I will never be lacking materials. Throughout the units I have been presented with dozens of engage, study and activate stage ideas which will serve as the ultimate resource if ever I'm at a loss for ideas or useful exercises.
