This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This course has allowed me to reflect on my current teaching practices.
I teach German as a Second Language in a high school and this course
has allowed me to examine my teaching style and how I run my class. It
has also allowed me to see the similarities in the grammatical aspects of
both languages and how I can teach those to students. I was originally
supposed to teach ESL to international students at my school, but shortly
after starting this course my teaching assignment was changed, but I
wanted to complete the course anyway. I found it to be some of the better
professional development I have done in many years.
I really like the idea of a ‘warmer’ and will implement that in my classes.
I will also look to engage students a bit more through ‘interviewing’
and reporting back to the class. German is a grammar filled nightmare,
but I will try to incorporate the grammar aspects in a more engaging
manner (games, activities etc.) as I got some very good ideas from the Rolf Hirschkorn
material that I was provided with. I will also look to make the class a bit
more immersion than it is now. Overall, it’s been a great exercise in my
growth as a teacher.
