This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This course was very helpful to me. It was interesting and a boost of confidence to see that many of the things that I am doing as both a teacher and school owner are correct. At the same time I was able to learn how to better prepare my lessons. Up until now they had been ideas but not quite as concrete as they are now. They often didn’t have all of the stages. I learned how important they are and how to include each of them in the lesson. Plus I was reminded how important it is to keep the lesson in english. I was becoming a bit lazy and often reverted back to German. Finally, I now understand the meaning behind some of the activities in course books and why I should be using them. I quite often skipped over the group tasks thinking they were a waste of time. That won’t happen anymore.
Going forward, I plan to continue using the lesson plan format that was provided in the course and will remember to take time to think about what the student’s problems could be as well as my own. I often neglected these aspects. I have also been given some great ideas as to how I can make the class more interesting and how I can develop my own worksheets rather than always relying on the internet to provide them for me. And lastly, I plan to try some games and activities with the adults that I believed to be too silly. I always thought that the adults just want it straight and didn’t want to mess around with fun stuff, but I see that this is not always true and look forward to having some more fun with english in the future.
