In this course, the three things I personally gained that will stick with me going forward are planning skills, understanding how people learn, and how to effectively teach with that understanding.
In my past teaching experience, I was much more of a 'just wing it' kind of guy. I would put together some loose plans, but that was about it. After going through this course, I have learned how effective proper lesson planning really is, I can see its intrinsic value. Not only for myself but for my students. I will be creating lesson plans in my future teaching endeavors that create a balanced, organized, and productive environment for myself and my students.
Another element of this class that has changed my perspective was gaining some understanding about how different people learn and the things that can get in the way of that.
I will put these new skills and understanding into action by creating effective lesson plans that cater to my students and how they best understand and produce english. Along with these new insights and my appreciation for lesson planning, I think I will be a much more effective teacher in the future.
