This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Being a native speaker in english and not have reviewed the many grammar rules for an extensive amount of time, (for they are no longer needed to accurately produce english) I had forgotten almost all of them. My mother, who is not a native speaker, would often ask me questions about why it would be, for example, a+b rather than a+c. I could not explain them to her because it comes naturally to me and it was difficult to find a way to explain it other than that it is what it is. Also, since my mother is trying to improve her english skills, she constantly reviews grammar rules and their functions. Because of this, she had more knowledge on them and I was no match for her. However, after taking this course, I was able to refresh my memory on the many grammar rules. In addition, I was able to gain knowledge rules that I didn’t even know existed. Now when my mother asks me a question I am able to explain them to her and produce sufficient examples. I also gained information on how to communicate accurately and actively. Additionally, I learned various ways to create good rapport with my fellow peers.
My plans are to go to korea and teach english to anyone who is willing to learn. I also plan to help my parents with their english speaking and writing skills as well.
