This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I've learnt a lot about the different types of students and teachers; what their roles are and what is expected of them in a class. The different levels of students and the different types of students allows me to plan better lessons and better exercise materials.
I have learnt a lot about grammar, some of which I was never taught at school. This not only enriches my own language usage but empowers me to inspire others to language greatness.
I've learnt how to plan lessons which, to state the obvious, will help me to plan good lessons. I've learnt methods to keep students interested and participating in the class.
I've learnt of the big difference between my job as a tutor and that of a teacher. One-on-one teaching is a laugh compared to teaching an entire class, but I look forward to the challenge.
I've learnt how to build lessons around videos and using other forms of technology/tools to liven up a lesson.
I've learnt how to use course books efficiently which will help me with lesson planning.
I've learnt a lot about me personally. Having to balance all the new things in my life while doing this course has been a challenge. I just finished school last year, I now have my car, my license, I moved out and I got a new job. I study maths and science at work and this course here at home. It has been a challenge but well worth it. It showed me that I can push my mind and improve myself every day. It also taught me time management which I believe will be a very valuable skill in the not too distant future when I am teaching in Asia.
I am very excited about teaching in Asia. Have been dreaming about it for quite a while now. I like Asians very much and I love their languages. I wish to broaden the horizons of the people I teach, to allow them to have better jobs, travel, see the world and enable them to look after themselves in an english-speaking situation or community.
