This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Signing up for this course was a great decision. Whether or not a person is an educator, learning how to teach language learners how to speak english, or any other language, is a very rewarding experience. As an educator, learning more about teaching is something that happens every day. Teachers may teach students, but students also teach teachers. It's a continuous cycle of growing, learning, adapting, accommodating, and more. This course includes many topics that every teacher should know, already knows, or will have to know.
I have gained much knowledge that I will put into action. I have been reminded that the Engage Stage of every lesson is the most crucial because that is where I must capture the attention of all the students and make sure they are ready and willing to participate. If students are not interested in the topic, they will obviously not benefit from the lesson, because their attention will be elsewhere. This is a very important factor to consider, especially when having to cover a topic that students may have a difficult time understanding. No matter what the topic is, it will be my job to use strategies that make any topic interesting.
The course provided many ideas for each stage of a lesson, and I will most likely use many of them. The use of pictures, games, and drilling will be very beneficial to both me and the students. Throughout each lesson, I will do my best to stay enthusiastic, encouraging, and positive. Classroom management has always been a strong quality for me, so hopefully I will be able to continue in an EFL setting.
