This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I must say that what I have gained from this has been invaluable in so many ways.
First off, taking an online course was far from anything that I ever thought I would do. This has been a challenge in so many ways it is nothing short of a miracle that I am at this point in the course. Being a professional procrastinator I had doubts that I would ever complete the course. With the encouragement and support of Tania I am nearing completion.
Most importantly I have a new appreciation of the english language. In high school this is the course I slept through as I couldn’t understand why I needed to learn grammar and was just not interested. Now to finally see the language come together structurally and appreciate all the parts has genuinely been fun and interesting, (not easy). I have had an opportunity to do some practice teaching and have some private students of my own. Watching the progress in the students putting the parts together has been rewarding.
As a result of this learning experience I have a strong desire to continue with additional courses in english and to develop my skills as a teacher. I have learned that teaching language can be fun for me as well as the students.
My action plan is to teach to students in egypt that do not have the money to attend a language school as well as anyone in this country that has a desire to learn english. I have established an english Club for students that have completed their courses to use as a vehicle to continue developing their conversational skills. I am also writing english courses for college students to enhance their university experience. Most of the university courses here involve lecture only, the courses I am developing involve student participation using their language skills beyond reading and memorization just to pass a course.
I plan to take additional courses in teaching. My next course will be teaching business language followed by teaching youngsters.
I have also learned what a valuable tool this computer is. I love that I can find so much additional material about the language, and help in teaching to keep things fresh and interesting. I have incorporated ‘fun’ into my classes and huge student participation which I believe was lacking in my earlier days of learning.
All in all I think this course has been a real eye opener for me and I can say that I have found what I will be doing for the next half of my life.
In closing I would say that the layout and design of the course was easy to follow and complete in what was to be accomplished with each lesson. This course has given me a solid foundation to begin my teaching experience.
