I feel very comfortable in front of a class or audience but this course has taught me exactly what ESL students need and how their needs differ from those of english speaking students. Knowing that I can now create very effective (and hopefully above all fun) lessons that ease students into the english language. I was taught
spanish via lots of very boring repetition and drilling; I do not want my students to feel their lessons consisted of only those sorts of activities.
I have also learned from creating practice lessons that it is much safer to plan an hour's worth of
work for a half-hour class since one can never be sure how quickly the students will progress through the
material. I have never taught adults before and before this course I assumed it would be a bit like teaching teenaged students but thankfully now I know better.
Most importantly I learned to approach english not as someone who has been using its vocabulary and grammar naturally for 25 years but as an outsider coming to grips with an extremely difficult language to learn. I have learned that it could be very difficult for a student transitioning from a British ESL teacher to an American one and I appreciate that without my TEFL training I would have tried to teach far too much too quickly simply because I would have assumed the students knew more than they might actually know and because I have studied english at University. I will
review and study my training
