Before starting this course, I had no prior teaching experience or training. As a english speaker, I can easily take for granted the complexity of the language and sometimes forget some of the simpler and more basic rules and foundations of the language. This course has reminded me that english as a language is both interesting and difficult, especially for those who did not grow up with it as their first language. This course has introduced me to many of the concepts revolved around teaching as a whole, as well as what would be needed and expected of teaching english as a second language. With this course I feel more confident in applying for positions as a english language teacher, and feel more confident in my ability to express both myself and the lessons necessary. This course has also provided me with numerous teaching ideas, and practices, instructions on how to handle specific situations, list of common practices and problems, as well as general guildlines of what to do or not to do as a teacher. I intend to apply to teach english in japan with the organisation JET. With the information learned throughout the course I hope to be able to successfully be granted a position within the organisation, and hopefully be able to gain valuable experience in teaching, which I will then apply towards a teaching degree. The knowledge gained from this course is what I would consider the building blocks of what I would hope to be, a prosperous journey into teaching.
