This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have realized that having a native knowledge of a language doesn't mean it's easy to teach it. I had no idea what modal auxiliary verbs were before this course yet I used them every day. It's clear that to be a good english teacher, I can't rely on my native knowledge but have to learn the language again from the point of view of a beginner. It has also become apparent that teaching is an incredibly complex and fluid process. It is good and helpful to be organized, have a plan and have standard methods but at the same time we need to be acutely aware that every student is a uniquely individual learner and every lesson is just as unique. It is no use using the same plan for every lesson and every student as it will not work and will only bore students with its lack of care, interest for the student and relevance.
