I have learned that for a teacher to be effective in class, there must be a balance between structure and creativity. The lesson plans taught me how to structure every step in the teaching process so that I won't get lost in case things don't turn out as planned. It allows the teacher to monitor progress and to check what has been learned and what issues need to be addressed.
Creativity comes in when teachers are given the chance to personalize some aspects depending on the class. There's a host of resources that a teacher can make use of from course books to web sites to plan a lesson effectively. Focused mentoring is also helpful because the teacher would have to really tailor fit the lesson according to the abilities, background, and preferences of the student.
I plan to use the things I have learned to make my lessons not just effective but interesting as well. The ESA method will be helpful here because it's like a step-by-step procedure on how to get the students involved in the entire learning process. I will also make sure that I address the student's needs on a personal level to show genuine concern for them.
