This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
First and foremost I have of course gained a qualification that enables me to hopefully find a job in my current country of residence, italy. As it is a pre-requirement for most schools in italy it was a necessary step in order to reach my goal.
Further I have learned a great deal about the way a teacher has to prepare and conduct his lessons. I learned that planning your lessons is vital to ensure the students get the most of it. The course helped me to better understand english Grammatik and encouraged me to further self-teaching and reading. As I am not a native english speaker this was a very important step along the way in becoming an english teacher.
In a sense it also helped me to be more confident in my approach to Grammatik and made me more comfortable and re-assured concerning my own accent as I was worried it could prevent me from being a good english teacher. Throughout the course I have learned and understood many a great deal about the relationship between the teacher and his students and I can see how important it is for the teacher to establish a good relationship with his students as well as establishing good rapport. As I myself have been to a great deal of language courses, first english and then italian, I am now able to compare and understand (through this tefl course) the difference between a good and a bad course/teacher and I am certain that this will also help me in becoming a good teacher to my students.
I the future I will do my best do use the knowledge I am taking from this course to be a friendly, fair and motivated teacher. I will also be sure to plan lessons in advance and I might even steal the lesson plan provided by this course as a guideline to do so. In all, I will ensure to work along the EFL methodology as I find this methodology to be effective and helpful in conducting lessons. In the near future I do hope to find a practicing EFL teacher so I can ask to assist and sit in lessons to see the theoretic in practice before I start teaching myself.
