I have been a teacher for the past 9 years. I teach high school students i.e.13 to 16 year old children. Of course even before I enrolled in the course I had been trying to improve my teaching skills continuously using both conventional and unconventional methods. I had no idea what the course would be like but my expectations were pretty high from it. I can say for sure that the experience has exceeded my expectations. I hate being a monotonous teacher and I was in danger of being one. The course has been pretty enlightening in ways more than one. To touch upon a few, I have learnt the importance of effective lesson planning. I also realized that in a language class, TTT should be minimized and STT ought to be maximized. I also understood the travails of students who learn english as a foreign language(jus like my students).I have come to appreciate the fact that the teacher should be gentle and encouraging with the students rather than be demanding. I really enjoyed learning the importance of games, activities, group work in language learning. The sections on discipline, receptive and productive skills have been real eye-openers. I have already begun to incorporate the things I have learnt in my teaching and I can sense a tangible improvement in my performance in the class. My students are pleasantly surprised with these developments and that really makes me happy and contented. All in all, this course has helped me to become a better and more confident teacher.
