This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This course helped me not only to fresh up my english if it comes to grammar rules but also helped to notice where I have weak points and what I have to look up myself again.
Throughout those units I recognised a lot of the organisation of TEFL classes that I had the joy of experiencing during my time as a language student myself. That was while I was learning japanese, but in the end the same principals work for every language.
I learned that it is not necessary to be a natural born teacher, if there is such a thing, but rather that with general communication skills and good organisation almost everyone can be a teacher.
I have some experience with teaching German, but only in one-to-one situations and always with the bad feeling that something is missing from my lessons. Even though my students always enjoyed learning with me.
Quite soon I plan to move back to japan where I want to put to use what I have learned here. Usually in Japan many schools have a native speaker only policy but with the expertise from this course I hope to find a job as an english teacher as well as transferring what I have learned to German lessons as well.
Even though, as mentioned above, my students so far enjoyed my lessons, I can now go out there and do so with much more confidence of actually teaching them something.
