This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The two most valuable things that I will take away from this course are an idea of english grammar from the perspective of an english language learner and a better grasp of how to plan effective lessons. I had a basic understanding of english grammar when I started this course, but going through the tenses one by one, just as an ELL student would, was very helpful because it helps me understand where the challenges might lie and which tenses I would be likely to find in each level.
I had volunteered in an adult ESL class in the past and taught spanish in a summer-camp setting, but very few times had I had the opportunity to teach in a classroom setting. The tips on classroom management, and above all the experience with lesson planning, will be very useful when it comes time for me to have my own class. I think if I had been asked to plan a lesson before starting this course I would have been at a total loss; I would not have done an effective job. Now I feel like I have an awareness of all the elements that are necessary and would be able to effectively fill the class time.
