After several years without studying, this course has proved to be both challenging and stimulating for me. With false expectations that it would be difficult to achieve the required standards set by the course, the very fact that all the information was clearly and simply presented made the goals set attainable.
The assignments were varied and thought provoking, covering all basic information required to teach english to foreign students. The grammar lessons consolidated information learned and long forgotten from school days, and challenged me to explore new and exciting ways to present material.
The course provided me with many fresh ideas and activities to work with in the future. I was made more aware of what resources are available to tap into for work with students at any level.
I will endeavour to make full use of the wealth of ideas and materials presented to provide stimulating and interesting lessons. The teaching ideas can be used in many contexts – one on one, or in a group setting, and not only for teaching english!
Having enhanced my limited teaching skills by heeding the information supplied, I plan to challenge others to both teach and learn in a more productive manner. Teaching will be more effective and rewarding as I try to motivate and provoke my students to actively participate and assist one another in the learning process. This will be more easily realized if I am well organized, well prepared, enthusiastic, and approachable at all times. Taking a personal interest in the students’ individual needs, and providing them with positive feedback and encouragement, will help towards creating a warm and professional environment in which they can learn and thrive.
