Is a TESOL Certificate Necessary?
Once upon a time it was possible to head overseas and teach English without the benefit of any relevant qualifications. However, these days employers typically expect their teachers to have had some kind of teacher training before they are let loose in the classroom. Any employers that are still unconcerned about a TESOL qualification are likely to be offering pay and conditions that are not what we would recommend. Is Teaching Experience Necessary?
Although a TESOL certificate is generally regarded as a requirement in the modern world of ESL teaching, previous classroom experience is generally not necessary. Due to a strong demand for teachers in some areas, many employers are more than happy to hire first-time teachers as long as they have an internationally recognized TESOL qualification.
